Francis
Saint Francis of Assisi is recalled by Dante as the lover of Poverty in the Paradiso and is mentioned among the patriarchs of the second heaven of the Paradiso.

Francis is mentioned by Dante in the Paradiso in relation to his love for Poverty, with whom he forms a pair of lovers in the author's language. The Franciscan tradition, which Dante takes up, presents the bond between Francis and Poverty as a mystical and ideal tie, opposed to the carnal love of the damned in Canto V of the Inferno. In Canto XXXII of the Paradiso, Francis is counted among the saints who make up the band of the patriarchs, alongside Benedict and Augustine.
