Sizii

The Sizii are mentioned by Cacciaguida in the Heaven of Mars (Paradiso XVI) alongside the Arrigucci, among the Florentine families that in the time of Dante's ancestor were already great. The verse places them explicitly 'a le curule', that is, at the seats of government and the offices of the Commune, according to the meaning of 'curule' indicated by the notes to the canto. The authorized notes qualify them as a Guelph family, recalled together with the Arrigucci also by Villani. No individual biographical data, precise internal subdivision, specific role held by individual members, or subsequent fate of the house can be reconstructed from the verses themselves nor from the notes provided.
