Libicocco appears named in Canto XXI of the Inferno during the roll call of the squad of ten devils assigned to escort the two travelers, whose collective characterization is one of aggressive arrogance. In Canto XXII he takes part in the scuffle that follows the departure of Ciampolo of Navarre, declaring, together with other devils, that the squad has already suffered too much from that attack by its own companions. The authoritative notes point out that the names of the squad are of whimsical and varied coinage, fusing visual and phonic elements in an overall effect of farcical aggressiveness, typical of the devils of the bolgia devised by Dante as comic.
