Hyperion
Hyperion is recalled by Cacciaguida in the Heaven of Mars as the parent of the Sun, whose luminous appearance during its course along the ecliptic is indicated.
Profile
In Paradiso, Cacciaguida, speaking to Dante, mentions Hyperion, calling him «tuo nato», that is, the Sun, whose light appears to Beatrice and Dante at the moment of their passing alongside the planet. Hyperion is thus indicated as the father of the Sun according to the mythological genealogy evoked in Cacciaguida's discourse. The scene takes place in the Heaven of Mars, where Dante's great-great-grandfather is weaving the praise of Florence and the exhortation to look upon celestial things. The mention occurs during the rapid review of the seven planets of the Ptolemaic system already traversed, closed by the citation of the last three wandering stars.
