Giuochi
Florentine family remembered by Cacciaguida among those that were growing in the Florence of his time, mentioned alongside the Sacchetti, Fifanti, and Barucci.
Profile
The name Giuochi appears in Canto XVI of the Paradiso, where Cacciaguida lists some Florentine families that enjoyed prestige and wealth in his times. The authorized note to the passage specifies that the Giuochi, together with the Sacchetti, the Fifanti, the Galli, and the Barucci, are families historically attested by Giovanni Villani, and that the Giuochi were settled in the quarter of Porta San Piero. The same note further observes that the Giuochi, once prominent, «today are popolani» (commoners), indicating a decline in status. No other biographical or anecdotal detail is supported by the verses or by the notes provided, and the name does not occur elsewhere in the passage.
