Barucci

Profile

The Barucci are named by Cacciaguida in the Heaven of Mars, in Paradiso XVI, among the Florentine families that, in the time of Dante's great-grandfather, were on the rise: "Sacchetti, Giuochi, Fifanti e Barucci" (Sacchetti, Giuochi, Fifanti, and Barucci). The notes to the passage clarify that they all depend on "Grand' era già" (Already great) of v. 103 and are houses likewise recalled by Villani (V, X, XI, and XIII). The Barucci are placed by the historiographical tradition cited in the note in the quarter of the Porta del Duomo: «furono i Barucci… che oggi sono venuti meno» ("the Barucci were… who today have come to nothing").
