Among the souls of Purgatory, Adrian V indicates his own condition of penitence and recalls that he has left a relative alive. The key verse from Canto XIX of Purgatorio contains his words: «Nepote ho io di là c'ha nome Alagia». The form «nepote» here designates a descendant of his family, and «di là» refers to the earthly world still subject to human institutions.
