In Canto XIV of Purgatorio, Guido del Duca bursts into a lament over the disappearance of the ancient Romagnol and Tuscan families that had made the region illustrious. Among the names evoked appears, at verse 107, the Traversara family, mentioned together with the Anastagi in a list of illustrious houses now in decline. The note on the passage interprets the passage as a nostalgic remembrance of men who had been close to and contemporary with Guido, whose stamp has been lost, and explains that the grief of memory culminates in the celebrated following verses.
