Families and factions

Sacchetti

Florentine family recalled by Cacciaguida among those that were already great in his time in the quarter of Porta San Piero.

Profile

The Sacchetti are mentioned by Cacciaguida in his discourse on the Florentine families of his time, in a list that includes, among others, the Giuochi, the Fifanti, and the Barucci. According to the notes on the canto, these houses depend on the observation «Grand' era già» (Great was it already), with which Cacciaguida signals the rise of new families under the action of Fortune. The same families are recalled by Villani in chapters V, X, XI, and XIII of his Cronica, confirming their placement in the quarters of Florence at the time of Cacciaguida. The note does not single out any individual member, indicating the Sacchetti as a house and not as an individual.
