Rinier

In Purgatorio XIV, v. 88, a soul points him out with the words «Questi è Rinier; questi è 'l pregio e l'onore», presenting him as a person worthy of praise. In the same canto, according to the note at v. 58, another spirit addresses him, calling him «Rinieri», and speaks to him about his lineage and about his nephew Fulcieri da Calboli, who was podestà of Florence in 1303; the note at vv. 55-58 indicates that the passage is spoken because Rinieri is present to listen. The note at v. 81 clarifies that Rinieri is placed in Purgatory on the same terrace as Guido del Duca and that the two, one a Ghibelline and the other a Guelph, represent the Romagnol nobility whose declining morals are described. The note at v. 58 adds that Fulcieri da Calboli was his nephew.
