Corrado of the conti di Palazzo, of Brescia, held the office of podestà of Florence in 1276 and the following year was captain of the Guelph faction, when Dante was still a child. Later he held the podestà of Piacenza in 1288. An ancient note records the esteem he enjoyed in life: «he bore much honor in his life, took delight in a fine household, and in a polished life, in the governance of cities, where he gained much esteem and fame». Dante places him alongside the «good Gherardo» da Camino and Guido da Castel in the list of figures praised by Marco Lombardo in the Earthly Paradise for the lordly liberality of their courts, united by a judgment that sets aside political faction and looks only to their reputation for uprightness and courtesy.
