Buoso da Duera, also called Dovera or Dovara, was lord of Cremona. In 1265 the Ghibellines of Lombardy, on behalf of Manfred, designated him to hold the line at Parma against the army of Charles of Anjou; bribed with money, he let the French pass without offering battle, according to contemporary chronicles. Dante places him among the traitors of Caina or of Cocytus, where Bocca degli Abati points him out with contempt as "quel da Duera," deliberately pairing a Ghibelline traitor like Buoso with Bocca's Guelph voice, in a list of names linked to the great battles of Manfred's time.
