Bellincione

In Canto XVI of Paradiso, Cacciaguida names Bellincione in the passage in which he recalls the ancient Florentine families: line XVI 99 indicates him as the progenitor from whom the house descends. According to the notes to Canto XV, Alighiero I, son of Cacciaguida, married a daughter of Bellincion Berti dei Ravignani, from whom Bellincione was born, father of Alighiero II and thus grandfather of Dante. The notes to Canto XVI further specify that from Bellincione dei Ravignani were born the daughters who, through marriages, spread the lineage among the Donati, the Adimari, and the Alighieri themselves. The name is therefore attested solely as a genealogical memory within the recollection of ancient Florence made by the ancestor in the Heaven of Mars.
