Description
In the Paradiso, Cunizza da Romano, spirit of the Heaven of Venus, denounces the corruption of the March of Treviso and prophesies political changes in Veneto, announcing that the water that bathes Vicenza will change, an allusion to a historical upheaval in the region. The river that bathes the city is the Bacchiglione, as specified by Brunetto Latini in the Inferno, where he indicates the transfer of the Florentine bishop Andrea dei Mozzi from Florence to Vicenza at the hands of Boniface VIII, passing from the river Arno to the Bacchiglione. The ancient name 'Vincenza' present in the Dantean verse preserves the historical root of the place name, today stabilized in the form 'Vicenza'.
