Galluzzo

Description

In Paradiso XVI, Cacciaguida, in evoking the Florence of his own time, contrasts the purity of the inhabitants of ancient origin with the present-day mixture, caused by the influx into the city of populations from the countryside and surrounding villages. Among these people are recalled the inhabitants of Galluzzo, together with those of the valleys indicated by the villages of Campi, Certaldo, and Figline (Fegghine). The village is thus presented as one of the localities from which new residents came, who, according to Cacciaguida's words, would have done better to remain outside the city than those who in his time had pushed as far as Fiesole.
